Experience Primitive Lifestyle At The Star Mountains Estrella Mountain Regional Park is 19,840 acres of desert and mountains which became the primary regional park within the Maricopa County Park System in 1954. Placed close to the meeting of the Gila and Agua Fria Rivers within the southwest valley, the park includes a huge wetland, or riparian, area. The bulk of the park remains pristine desert, terribly similar in look to the landscape seen by the primary settlers and explorers.
The Sierra Estrella range, or Star Mountains, was once within the Mexican border, and remained thus till the Gadsden Purchase in 1853. Today, several amenities are available to guests, including the only grass picnic area (65-acres) within the Maricopa County Park System. This is great for camping getaways in AZ!
