Beautiful Combination of Art & Science The beautiful combination of art and engineering comes alive in the form of Water Mark. The Water Mark is situated at its dramatic narrowing point, the Indian Bend Wash and Scottsdale’s innovative flood control Greenbelt. Situated within the flood basin on both sides of Indian Bend, the artwork is both a roadside landmark and a barrier.
Heading towards the road traffic, each gargoyle has a different pose and stands guard, some with ears pricked back as if to listen to the water flow. During a dramatic flash flood, water pours from the gargoyles’ mouths. At night, the sculptures are subtlety up-lit with blue lights on the east side and yellow lights on the west side, representing water and the sun.
